~Measurement (H)x(W)x(D) : 7.4x3.6x3.2cm
~Locality : Gralex Quarry, Mont-sur-Marchienne Charleroi, Hainaut, Belgium

A single amber calcite crystal, terminated at both ends and free of matrix, mounted on a clear acrylic stand with a black name plate. The upper end is a sharp scalenohedral point in the dogtooth habit, while the lower end tapers to a blunter, more rounded finish. The body is translucent with a glassy lustre across the prism faces, and the warm amber deepens a little toward the centre.

A paler core carries fine growth lines and what looks like a small phantom crystal suspended inside the body, surrounded by wispy iron stained veils. A few small white bladed crystals sit on the cream calcite at the lower edge.

Calcite is calcium carbonate, CaCO3, trigonal, soft at Mohs 3, with perfect cleavage in three directions. The scalenohedral habit gives the pointed dogtooth form, and the amber colour is generally put down to traces of iron in the carbonate. The Gralex Quarry works limestone in the Hainaut basin near Charleroi, the same ground that carried the Belgian coal seams.

The combination of Mohs 3 and cleavage in three directions makes this a soft crystal that will part cleanly if dropped or knocked. Lift it by the stand.

One of a kind. The specimen pictured is the exact piece you will receive.

Product information

At Gleamaura, we recognize that a collector’s preferences naturally evolve over time. To support the ongoing growth of your collection, we offer a trade-in program. We will accept a lesser value specimen — purchased directly from Gleamaura — of the same species and locality as credit toward a more valuable specimen of the same species and locality.

Trade-ins are applicable only for individual items originally purchased at RM500 or above.

Jewelry and carved products are excluded from this trade-in program.

All trade-in specimens must undergo a thorough examination by our team prior to acceptance. To qualify, the item must be presented in the exact condition in which it was originally sold — without any damage, repairs, alterations, or signs of deterioration. Gleamaura reserves the right to decline any trade-in that does not meet our original standards of quality, preservation, and authenticity.

Please note that Gleamaura does not bear any shipping costs or responsibility for any losses that may occur during the return shipment of the product to us.

Gleamaura remains committed to assisting collectors in the seamless enhancement and refinement of their collections.
